In a season already packed with adrenaline and excitement, the concluding stages of the UAE Rotax MAX Challenge 2018-19 are set to be the most eagerly-anticipated yet as competitors have today been advised that they will be enjoying the privilege of thrashing out the championship finale at the world-renowned Yas Marina Circuit!
The 2-day event will take place on 29 & 30 March 2019 with an extended format seeing qualifying and heat races on Day 1 for all age categories being rounded off by Pre-Finals and Finals on Day 2, all of which will make up the final points contribution towards the overall championship totals. The titles will be announced and awarded at the end of Day 2.
In a late season venue exchange, Round 7 of the Championship will now be held at Al Ain Raceway on 08 March.
Through the unwavering support of Abu Dhabi Motorsport Management (ADMM), the UAE Rotax MAX Challenge has enjoyed the privilege of running on the North Handling Loop of the main Yas Marina Circuit annually since 2013, understandably a season (and career) highlight for all participants.
However, with the ITU World Triathlon Abu Dhabi 2019 also set to take place on the main circuit on 8th March, adjustments were needed in order for that tradition to continue.
Speculation has surrounded the destination of Round 7 since the opening of the new Yas Kart Zone circuit facility in late 2018, which has been redeveloped to entertain both leisure and race karts.
ADMM constantly look to support and promote awareness of karting as 'grassroots' motorsport. And in the UAE Rotax MAX Challenge - the UAE's National Karting Championship - they identify an opportunity to play a role in the promotion and development of the nation's future motorsport champions.
With selfless adjustments to their own calendar of events, Yas Marina Circuit worked together with Al Ain Raceway (UAE Rotax MAX Challenge organisers) to secure the best possible solution for all competitors.
The opportunity to once again take to the exulted asphalt of Yas Marina Circuit's North Loop will be a huge motivating factor for all involved, and a fine conclusion to the most professionally run championship in the region.
UAE Rotax MAX Challenge Championship Director, Guy Sheffield, explained, "We are immensely grateful to ADMM for going above and beyond in support of both kart sport and, particularly, our youngest licence-holders who all see this as the highlight of their year. Given the size of Yas Marina Circuit operation and their own commercial considerations, it is humbling to consider their contribution to motorsport at all levels. This decision will delight all of our regular participants and will undoubtedly attract some additional international entries."
Sheffield continued, "We have enjoyed a close working relationship for many years. The effort that has been put into the new Yas Kart Zone circuit is impressive and we are also committed to working with them to be able to promote the use of this facility for club racing in the very near future."
